Gatsby? Not So Great Anymore

Bathe me with Jay Gatsby
in a house made of sunshine
that never grows dark
Throw a cape of sanity

over my craziness now
and leave it in place for the nonce
Whisper sweet somethings
in the bend of my neck
right where perfume
is not, but remind me to put
a dab of “Obsession”…
It’s my scent, don’t you know
wherever you think it will
do the most harm, that’s best
don’t you think, yes I knew
you’d agree after all

In The Window I Saw

My grandma from Paris
hurrying across
the street, struggling
to hold an umbrella
against the wind and rain

My sister, the one
who died last year
is sitting in a booth
It looks like she’s
smoking, which is odd,
as she never did
when I knew her,
But I hadn’t seen her in
quite some time before
her death…

My best friend
from childhood
and someone
I don’t know; their heads
pressed together,
they are peering out
at me

But, their faces are indistinct
Through what looks like a vase
of cut flowers
So it’s hard to say for sure
