Gill & Bailey – November 2023
Kitty Bailey and Caitlin Gill traded art and words. Caitlin shared this image, titled “Fawn Runneth Over,” with Kitty:

In response, Kitty wrote this:
Woman Runneth Over
she, a woman warrior
was always taught to endure pain
they say boys don’t
cry, but neither do fawns
the gaze of hopelessness
the state of despair
is whispered into snow droplets
speckled onto sepia shaded skin
she makes no sound, wounded
warrior continues to pour
soul into lifeless eyes
despite being soulless
in her life
the words no never pierced
her lips, so she gave
Empathetically
giving away chunks of her being
until limbs were exposed
tendons of birth dying
hugged cartilage relinquished
chromatic carmine oozed
down the winding roads
body sinking in the overspill
of milky liquid
gestures floating at the top of the glass,
waiting to runneth over
by the next person who only takes
until all that is left is
the vacant stare
& the understanding that
benevolence can be seen as pity
leading the limitless earth
to your own demise

Kitty shared this poem with Caitlin:
Street Light’s Stars
When street lights start to bend
A smeared image of fiery neons scatters
The pavement, blinding some would say
This kaleidoscope of the city’s heart
Is it everything you dreamed of?
Dancers, performers, poets, dreamers
Stand tall like the skyscrapers, reach further
Than the stars, climb to the midnight moon
Tell her that you love the way she glows
Tell her that you love
Which beacon of the night will you follow?
Perhaps the one that shines light into your eyes
Don’t leave me to be so dim
I waited in the darkest of hours
Staring at bending street lights
There is a canopy of vibrance
And an empty bottle waiting to be filled
If only we could stuff it with luminosity
If only we could
Not be so empty
In response, Caitlin made this image, titled “Runneth Away”:
