Etukudo & Young – February 2017

Thom Young and Joy Etukudo traded art and words. Joy shared this image, entitled “Blue Dance,” with Thom:

In response, Thom wrote this poem:

The Blue Dancer

a blue dancer
alone
neon on skin
a song only she can hear
she floats above the crowd
she loves without regret
while the city is alive
with death in the shadows
yellow toothed grins
switchblades in alleys
rabid dogs hate in eyes
you never want to see
but they can’t touch her
above them she moves
gentle as an earthquake
fury
in a woman
without love
blue blue blues.

Thom shared this poem with Joy:

Love

love came back
to haunt
us
with a gun
in her hands
we sat over
a bowl of cold cereal
and
laughed
at how the world
used to be
I never saw her again
after that
but sometimes
I hurt for no reason
at all.

In response, Joy made this image, entitled “I hurt for no reason at all”:
