Koulouris & Edgeworth – May.14
Niki Koulouris and Eleanor Edgeworth exchanged art and words. Eleanor shared this painting, entitled “Sea Creatures,” with Niki:
In response, Niki wrote this poem:
Sea Creatures
Here only they are lost
and though no softer
in those days
they still extract
the Fauve’s dose
of rupture
not even I
can find the
water’s weakness
it’s the lure
in the end
the formless flair
of light peddled
in night farms
that makes dark hay of
bowstrings as long
as Samson’s
hair.

Niki shared this poem with Eleanor:
5.
It was there all along
as if undiscovered
the modern sea
already alive, sawn off
craved by gravel
summoned by the populace
that salvaged pendants
from the surgery of tides
even though it was the sea
it did not seem like it
nor did it seem like what it could be
it was not the sea I missed
on its way to another age
It has always been like the sky
on a day no one is born
it has become its counterpart
a half icon, as permanent,
from where can it be seized
how should it be adorned?
In response, Eleanor made this painting, entitled “To Sea or Not”:
Love the interaction between the poetry and the paintings!!! Great job!
Thanks for your comment Steven. I appreciate it! Eleanor’s superb work made it that much easier.
Looking forward to seeing more!
Thanks, It was a fun challenge.
Your lovely images, Niki and Eleanor, took me straight into and above the ocean. So very many enjoyable lines. “night farms” alone, will keep me busy for awhile!
Thanks Carol for your kind words. Made my day!
I think both these women are wonderful artists. I love this interplay. Great to both of you!
