Heath O’Brien & Abbott – February 2012

Wendilee Heath O’Brien and Sara Abbott traded writing and artwork. Wendilee shared this piece, “Wave To Rock” with Sara:

In response, Sara wrote this poem:

Time Traveller

At once I found myself in the most peculiar place
It was not like the forests I had known in my youth
no scent of evergreen
no sticky sap
no piney pokes in the foot
no laughter and footsteps

At closer look there was no green at all
neither in scent or in sight
instead
a world of brown and gray
highlighted with drops or red here
orange there
an occasional pink or yellow

It felt lifeless

It would have been lifeless
were it not for the rocks—
in the absence of human hands
they seemed to rise from the
gray Earth
and hold orbs of color
of past life

It was lifeless

Nature revolted against her subjects
abuse and neglect rendered her sterile
her fruits no longer available for waste
pillaging
profit

Sara shared this poem with Wendilee:

Blizzard

Forty some inches
A sole leaf like tumbleweed
Laughable at best

In response, Wendilee made this painting, titled “Forty some inches/A sole leaf like tumbleweed/Laughable at best”:
